CZ550 in .243 Win HATES 100 gr Remington Core-Lokts...
« on: March 26, 2007, 07:55:37 AM »
OK, I think I'm starting to learn my lesson about buying in bulk before testing. I purchased 500 bullets of 100 gr Remington Core-Lokts for my CZ550 and I CANNOT find a load for this gun. I'm actually beginning to think that it hates the weight and refuses to work with anything over 87 gr. Rate of twist is 1:10.

Anyway, who can offer a pet load in their .243 Win using 100 gr. bullets in either IMR4350 or Varget? I have loaded .020 off the lands and .010 off the lands and 7 different charges patterned like a shotgun. I'm using CCI BR2 primers and Winchester brass. Please tell me the following about your load:

- powder
- OAL
- primer
- bullet
- brass

It hates the 100 gr SPCL?  My Vanguard/Howa .243 seems to like them quite well.  I don't get "varmiting" accuracy but they are very good deer bullets for me.  Deer don't much like them tho.

Rob, Just give me a dozen bullets to play with. The 55gr NBT in mine are absolutely killer.

Hunt,

It's been a while since I used 4350 with a 100gr bullet. If ya have any H414 or H4831 sitting around, give one of them a try, with a near max load. I used IMR4350 with lighter bullets. I tried some H4350 and didn't like the results. I've yet to try Varget, but my Brotherinlaw, loads it in his Rem 700 in back of 70 gr bullets with good results. With the heavy bullets in my 243 I'll use the slower powders. I've had good results IMR7828 and H1000 also.

Hope this helps some.

My Ruger .243 likes 41.5 grains of IMR 4350 with 100 Nosler Partitions. Perhaps you should start at the manual recommended OAL and build up in 10 thousandths increment to find the correct OAL for your rifle.

Before you try a pet load, go a  get a box of the Federal Fusion 95gr. They shoot under an inch in my Handi 243 with 1:12 twist. Everybody that has shot them love them. They also are fantastic on whitetail and coyote.
