I bought my wife a 3 inch model 317,which is a 22 l.r. revolver. After two hundred rounds,we noted the cylinder had metal missing where the rim makes contact with it. The gun was repaired by the factory and returned. Again after 50 rounds, not only has the cylinder cracked, but the area around the firing pin is pitted. The cases split when fired, and powder residue flies back into the shooter's face. The gun will be returned to S&W again. I would advise all 317 owners to check their guns closely for similar problems
