Ithaca 10 ga.?
« on: May 07, 2007, 05:34:10 PM »
Anyone know anything about this shotgun? I was visiting a friend over the weekend and we shot it- not much recoil for a 10 ga. semiauto gun and very nice wood stocks. He thought it was about 25 yrs. old.  It had a really short barrel though with a white bead sight, and didn't have any marking on the barrel as far as choke.  The way it patterned I thought it might have been cylinder bore.

Probably an old Ithaca Mag 10 that some schmuck cut the barrel on.  Can't really think of a good reason for a 10ga with an open bore.

I couldn't figure it out either .  didn't look like a cut off barrel though. bead was on it and didn't look rough cut.

Ithaca made a few of their Mag-10's for police dept's. It was considered the ultimate riot shotgun. The name ''alley sweeper'' comes to mind, but that might not have been it. The gun had, I believe a 26'' barrel, and open choke. Might be worth some money to a collector. You might want to stock up on 3 1/2'' 4 buck, just in case the Schumer hits the fan. Now that I've had time to think about it, I'm pretty sure it was called the ''road blocker''-gypsyman

Good memory, Gyps.  That's 100% right.  It was pretty devastating with anything from #2 buck on up.

thanks guys.  this one may have been a police firearm, "road blocker" and the dimensions sound right as far as I can recall. Definitely an open choke barrel.  I will pass this info on to my buddy.
