dad's are allowed to brag
« on: March 18, 2007, 09:59:37 AM »
Took my 15 year old daughter to the range today for the very first time. I had bought her a Handi in .243 some time ago but the weather and sports have kept us tied down. She was a bit apprehensive of recoil so I loaded up the first ten at a starting load. In the picture you'll see what she was shot. She fired a total of 25 rounds today, with the last ten just a bit hotter than the previous rounds. All were at 25yds, but hey, this is the first time she fired a gun other than qualifying at gun saftey.

Good for you guys. She will be a sharp shooter in no time. I plan on taking my daughter to the range again this year. ;D

Tell her she did good , you do relize that your time at the reloading bench just doubled don't you .  ;D

If the recoil is a bit much for her to deal with for very long you may want to look at some of the 60% loads using H4895 , they do reduce the recoil some and still shoot desent . I use them in 22-250 & 243 for my sisters kids .

after the first 6-8 rounds, she warmed up to the .243 real well. recoil was no problem at all. she was even asking for the next shell to fire. I think that it's real important for kids to build confidence in shooting. that's why we shot at 25yds.  when she looked at the groups she shot, and I told her that they were perfect, she got a big smile.

bragging and being proud of our children is the finest reward us dad's can have.Just be sure to let her know you are bragging about her , and get to see the smile on her face.

after she had finished her shooting at the 25yd range, we took her target over to the 100yd range.I stopped 2 other guys there to show off her shooting. like I said earlier, set the kids up for sucess first, we'll move to the 50yd range next trip.

That's great shooting.  I have a good time at the range with my boys.  Next year, when Hayley turns four, she'll get to go shoot.  She has already picked out a pink laminate stainless Chipmonk.

Your daughter is a good shot and I'm sure she'll always remember spending time with Dad at the range.

Not a thing wrong with struttin' and crowing about our kids when they do good...

I know I always will ..

Congrats on a great time and good memories with your daughter..
