New .223 at the range
« on: March 10, 2007, 03:00:44 PM »
I found this forum about a week ago while searching the internet for an affordable .223. After reading alot about the handi rifles I decided to buy one. cleaned it up good and went to the range today. shot it at 50 yds and was getting like 1 inch groups with american eagle 50 grain. hollow points. shot 40 rounds of them then decided to try some wolf after reading on this forum I didn't really think it was going to work out. well i was surprised still got 1 inch groups and not a single case got stuck. I know 1 inch groups at 50 yds isn/t great and alot of the problem I think was me jerking so next time out will probably be better anyways just thought I would share my first handi rifle experience.  ;D

On the up side to this if it is a new barrel the groups will tighten up after you put a couple hundred rounds down the tube. Sometimes less. ;D

yeah it is a new barrel i'll keep shooting it and see what happens I'm sure it will get a little better. seems like alot of handi rifle owners here have good luck with winchester white box 45 grain load I wanted to get some of them to try but the gun shop I stopped at on the way to the range didn't have any. overall I'm happy with my new gun so far.

Welcome to GBO H110 !!! Just keep practicing with it and be a little patient. There is basically no WWB ammo on the shelves at this time. Your username is H110 ... do you reload?

Keep trying on the ammo.  I would go with blackhills or ultramax for a box and see what happens.  I had to run a few assorted boxes through mine to get what I liked and it ended up being the ultramax in 50 gr nosler bt.  Mine shot the wolf without sticking, I had to try it when I bought the rifle, but the accuracy was terrible.  I have a few thousand rounds of it for my AR and I got a handi with no other .223 rounds in the house.  My range is basically my front deck out to the woods ,and the hot tub makes a fantastic  bench......What to do???  I need to start reloading because my range is that close.  I say keep playing with it, I love the .223 handi. Fun to shoot, doesn't break my shoulder or my bank to do so.  Good luck and let us know what happens.

Mine did not shoot the Ultramax worth a hoot. About 2'' groups at 100 yards.

Ultramax has several different loads, the 40gr Nosler BT shot very good in mine, almost as good as the WWB 45g JHP. ;)
