Rifle Hunting Bills signed by Gov. Spitzer

I read this on the NYS Rifle and Pistol Association press release page of their website...Hopefully it is accurate.

TROY, NY -- (7/19/2007) -- The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association commends Governor Spitzer for signing A-6064A/S-3219A allowing the use of rifles for hunting deer and bear in Chemung, Steuben and Yates counties. Successful implementation of the rifle hunting change in several other counties in the southern tier region in 2005 demonstrates that rifles can be used safely for big game hunting in this part of the state. The NYSRPA is pleased that the Governor appreciates this fact and has supported New York State’s hunters by signing these bills.

It's up on the DEC site,now I have to decide on what rifle to use. Prob.a savage 99 or the NRA Krag carbine I got my 1st deer with 40 years ago.

And everyone was saying how anti-gun Spitzer was?  Heck, it took the Republican Pataki like 11 years in office to sign a similar bill in the other counties where rifle hunting was opened a couple of years back.  Spitzer did it in less than a year in office.  Not that I think Spitzer is great or anything, but it's just funny how a wise decision concerning hunting was made so much quicker by someone who wasn't supposed to be on our side in the least!!

   While i thank and commend Gov Spitzer for signing the rifle bill, I will reserve judgement as to whether he is a friend if gun owners..
   I tend to think some county govts. realized that much of their big game season revenues were going to neighboring counties..so they may have whined to the Gov...glad they finally "saw the light"..

       Gov Pataki a Republican..spare me..LOL    He's no more Republican than I am..he's a RINO..

This bill is only good for one year...Hopefully it will become permanent...Until then, keep your fingers crossed.

Never said that he was bosom buddy.   It is obvious that many won't give him ANY credit for signing this into law just because he is a democrat.  I don't care what party he is a member of.  This law should have been signed LONG ago since it didn't make any sense at all that so many rural regions of NY were restricted to shotguns only.  I think allowing rifles in these counties is good thing.  He signed it into law and I give him credit for doing so.  Whatever else he might do in favor or against hunting in the future I will judge him on then.

Hopefully this could be Spitzer's last official duty before he is removed from office for using NYS Troopers for spying on his political enemies.  Mr. day #! is a fraud and what makes matters worse is he was our attorney general sworn to uphold our laws.

I don't trust Spitzer a far as I can throw him. In my opinion this was just a sly move to get us to think he's on our side (ie. throw us a little bone). Truthfully I don't see how the rifle thing is a big "win" for hunters anyway. Some friends of mine consider it to be a win, but I don't see it that way. I guess I am among the minority though since many folks here support it. It's not that I don't support it, it's just that I don't see it as a big "win" for sportsmen. Also, when I heard some of the lawmakers state their reasons for supporting it, I had to laugh. Several said their intent was to better control the deer herd, which of course is ridiculous logic.
