Mannlicher Stock Accuracy?
« on: March 18, 2007, 02:52:03 PM »
I put a factory mannlicher stock on my .30-06 Handi.  It seems to put pressure on the right side of the barrel.  I know that Quickdtoo has at least one of these on a .45-70.  So the question is, how does it affect accuracy?  If it gets thrown off, how does one accurize the rifle?  The muzzle end of the stock can be wobbled around so it may be bearing on the barrel one shot but not the next.  Should I sand out the barrel channel and add the washer in an attempt to totally free float it?  I haven't taken it out to shoot yet, so I may be getting strung out about nothing.  You thoughts, please!

Thanks,

I had the same problem, the forend was thicker on one side. I sanded the channel thinner on the thick side with a sandpaper wrapped dowel, then used a piece of refrigerator magnet about 1½" long x 1" wide placed about 4" from the muzzle to create a pressure point, without the barrel band, the .45-70 Handi shoots pretty good with a peep sight at 100yds, 1½" with my old eyes. :D

Thanks Tim, I knew I could count on you!  1 1/2" groups at 100 yards?  It sounds like your tired old eyes are doing better than mine, and folks tell me that mine are pretty sharp!
