550 action one or more types
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:05:53 PM »
I've been going over past postings and if I'm not mistaken all 550 actions are not the same. Besides length is one any beefyer than the next?

Second, I bought a .17HMR this past fall, I never got a shot target in the box  :'(

Jim: There is a magnum action for the CZ 550 which is the size needed for cartridges such as .416 Rigby, .375 H and H and other such cartridges. The standard action is for cartridges such as the .30/06 and .270 Winchester. The standard action is also used for .308 type cartridges.

Second, if your rifle came with no target, it is no big deal. Those targets are meant to show your rifle functions, not how accurate it is. You read about folks all the time with a 1.5 inch target group which came with the rifle and then the same rifle consistently turns in .75 inch groups. Don't worry about it and shoot your rifle.

7x75mm is exactly right about the factory target. If the factory target was any indicator of how my 527 shot I would have never bought it. The group on the factory target was about 1.5 and my first group out of the box was 3 shots in one ragged hole.

OK  but is there a difference in the magnum actions? An action chambered for 300 Win Mag is it lighter than the actions chambered for 375 H&H and 416 Rigby?

Thanks
Jim
