There is a field grade in a LGS and I have been thinking that it needs a home. I would like to get it and send it in to have a .500 WE. The gun has been setting at the shop for almost 3 years. It looks like it is in great shape. Are there anythings to be conserned with on these guns? This gun has a black rubber pachmeyer grip. Can those be swapped out and will FA fit a wood or micarta grip to the gun too?

Thanks for help in advance.

Yes.

You are in the US, so getting it done should be easy - unlike trying to ship any firearm from "Elsewhere". FA needs your complete gun, grips are also specially fitted to the frame.

The price list for the retrofit options are on the Freedom Arms website.

Oh - and you need to be concerned as once you have one you probably will think all your other singel actions are inaccurrate, oh and you'll want another one.... and another.

I would check the usual stuff that I would on any secondhand revolver before buying it. But the FA's are great and strong, but then nothing is indestructible to a careless user.

FA should only need the gripframe for fitting grips....per my last inquiry of them on the subject.

Unless you are well versed on the assembly of a FA 83 I would send them the gun and let them do the grips from the gun, not just the grip frame.  It will also give them the chance to look it over for you.  Great guns and you will enjoy owning one.

Obviously, if you're going to have a .500WE cylinder fitted, you're going to send them the whole gun anyway. Have the grips fitted at the same time. I highly recommend both the .500WE cylinder and the grips, whether laminated or Micarta. I was able to develop a 325 gr. 1100 fps .50 AE load and several heavier .500WE loads that all shoot to the same point of aim in my gun. I predict you'll really enjoy the combo.

The whole idea of owning an FA 500 WE just gives me goose bumps!  I've really tried to not start another caliber for reloading but my resolve is not holding up well, and perhaps by the time next Christmas rolls around ole' St. Nick will have decided its best that I own one ;D

He's already decided. You just need to figure out how to ensure he delivers.

I went back to the shop and looked at this gun again. It has a scope mount. A nice leupold actually. No rear sight and D-n-T'ed nixes the deal for me. As much as I am interested in the gun. I like open sights on my SAs. So If any of you guys want it, it's in Hasting Mi. at Bob's gun and tackle.

The FA guns come D-n-R'ed from the factory. Sell the scope mount and buy a rear sight from FA and you are in business if the price is right.

What is D-n-T'ed and D-n-R'ed?  Obviously shorthand for something.  I just haven't seen it used before.

Thanks

I called the place and someone has it on hold. I was told that this would be the forth time that some one has asked to have it held or put on lay a way.
