New Sportster 22
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:46:40 AM »
Much in part to this forum I ordered an ss1022 from WalMart in Jan. I have never purchased a firearm from WalMart and it was to say
the least interesting, total of 4 clerks to do paperwork and they argued over correct procedure. I had ordered the old model with
out sights and a mount included but I received the new model with open sights. I fired it approx. 25 times after minor cleaning
and then i used JB bore cleaner and polish. Smoothed bore to a nice shine, I then installed an Nustar 3x9x42 compact scope, very
strange looking set up, due to size of scope and the way mount is designed I could only use one ring on front of scope allowing
proper eye relief. All in all shoots great so far I've tried only CCI cb's(work great) Remington shorts(not that great) and remington
long rifle subsonic,(very good). I did need to add a rubber washer to forearm and it helped grouping, I was suprised at that as I did
not believe there was enough vibration with the ammo i was shooting to make a difference. Has anyone tried removing material
on forearm to allow free floating.?

I like it, excellent little firearm, I believe I will remove recoil pad and install slim butt plate as length of pull seems little long for me.
I don't think the accuracy is up to standard with my ruger 10/22 however i think it will improve with some minor improvement
and perhaps changing ammo.

Great forum you all have here.

You can sand the synthetic fore arm out some.Just don't mess with the rib right in front of the receiver.I use sockets and wrap them in sand paper.Just find the right size socket for the width you need.Go slow and check often. My sportster 22 will shoot with the big boys. It'll out shoot a buddies 10/22 that he has way to much money in.Made him madder than all get out.Believe it or not mine shoots the Remington bulk better than the high priced ammo.Got lucky on that one. It'll put 5 in 1/4" at 25 yds if I do my part off a bench and rest.Very much a MOM(minute of mouse)gun.Good luck and good shooting.Oh by the way, welcome to the forum.Dave
