Fur slippage

Hey guys, I have about a dozen under ice beaver sets out. Last week, I caught a mushrat, (not unusual). He was under for only a day. When I skun and fleshed him, I noticed fur slippage, and I mean alot, on his underside. Now I can see this happening if I hadn't checked for about a week, but only overnight? I'm in upper WI, not warm water for about 500 miles. Any thoughts?

don't know- I routinely skin rats on a 3 day check, lots longer under ice- and I've never seen a rat in cold weather that slipped. Even green bellied rats don't have fur slippage.

Yep Thumper, no way is a rat going to slip one day under ice.... someone is screwing with you.    Ive seen a rat slip in fall  in a three day check but rat was  in sun in shallow water.

Just lovely, now I have to start worrying about fur thieves. At least with the snow I can see tracks besides my own.
