Question About Ultra Varmint
« on: February 21, 2007, 04:28:40 PM »
I'm looking at the Ultra Varmint (fluted/blued barrel) in .204 and wondering what is a ballpark price I can expect to pay.  Is it cheaper to go the bone stock "SB-2" and add the synthetic stock later on?  Not too many current models in the .204 from what the website shows.

Hey, love this website/forum!

You only have 2 choices in the .204, the wood stocked NEF Handi with a 22" bull barrel, and the H&R 24" fluted bull barreled Ultra with the Choate Varmint stock.  They're both bull barrels, the flutes look nice, but aren't really necessary, in fact may be a deficit to barrel stiffness and they're too shallow to add to any significant cooling. Optimum barrel length is 23", so either will work fine. The Handi sells for $210-$230, the Ultra sells for around $280-$300, pick the one you like most, you'll be happy, you can always buy a different stock set later or trade it.

Yup, those are the two that I saw on their site.  Thanx for the help, Quick.  This will help my decision making process.
