« on: February 19, 2007, 07:52:07 AM »
What expierence or opinions do you have on simmons rifle scopes. I know they are now owned by Meade Instrument company. I see a scope from them at the local Walmart that I am thinking about buying. Thanks, Charlie

I have a cheap simmons 3-9x40.
Two years and no trouble.
It mounted nice over hammer too.

I have a Simmons aetec mounted on what used to be a 30-06, but is now a 338-06. It held up fine to the 30-06 and I anticipate it will keep doing so.  The scope is very clear and sharp, with plenty of eye relief.  It's an older Aetec though, since the newer ones have slightly less relief.  Mine has over 5" at the lowest setting.

Just like everything, as price goes down, so do the features and quality.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Depending on how you look at it, Simmons has changed a lot since they moved their factory to China 2yrs ago, in the beginning, they had a lot of problems in manufacturing and postponed the release of the new Master series scopes. The older, made in the Philippines models such as the Whitetail Classic, Aetec and Whitetail Expeditions were great scopes, but are no longer made, except the WTC18 which is apparently is still made only on a contract with 2 retailers, Midway and one other.

FWIW, the 8-point Master Series Simmons that Walmart currently sells is a Walmart only scope that has received some good reviews at RFC the last I read, it apparently has some of the Master series features, but at about one third the cost.

Thanks for the replies. Tim the one you described is probably the one I saw at Walmart. I may buy it to go on my Handi 7mm 08. Charlie
