New Kimber Varmint 22-250 - what factory ammo to use?
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:27:02 AM »
I just picked up a new Kimber Varmint in 22-250 with a 4-12 Leupold.

I am not a reloader.

Could anyone recommend some factory ammo that I may try as a starting point. Accuracy is what I am after.

I will probably end up trying everything I can get my hands on. However, if someone could make a suggestion where to start, I can at least begin to shoot varmints while trying other ammo.

Thanks,

Can't really say which factory load is best, but I have seen really good results with Federal Premium and Hornady loads.

You need to try different loads to determine which one your particular rifle likes.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

One that you might want to try that has worked well in all of my 22-250's and isn't too hard on the wallet is Winchester's white box 45 gr hollowpoints.  They come 40 rounds to a box last time I bought them they were $14/box but they have been going up like everything else, now it looks like they are running around $20/box.  That load shoots around .2-.3 in my modle 70 heavy varmit and about .5 in my Encore.  Of course your rifle may not like them.
