Stock on .22 Mag Sportster vs. on .17's
« on: February 09, 2007, 09:15:58 AM »
I looked at a used .22 mag Sportster at a local gun shop, and it has a bit of a hump in the top of the stock, not a straight stock like the new .22LR next to it.  The difference is the same as shown on the Sportster page of the current catalog; the .17 has the hump, the .22/.22mag doesn't.  This .22m also has no sights, just the mounted scope rail.  Did they ever come this way, or did the PO mix and match and sell off what he didn't want?
Other thoughts?
It's $100, btw.

I'm sure Quick will chime in here on this.I believe they changed the to sights on the Sportster about mid year last year. Before that they came the way you described that 22 mag.I just bought a 22LR that is the same way.Mine was new unfired.Just older stock. Both my 22 and 17 mach2 have the"Monte carlo" styled stock. They have the hump you speak of.Hope this helped.Dave

Can't really help ya on the iron sighted rimfires, I have none, just a couple .17s, I would suggest you read a few of the recent posts on this forum, there has been lots of discussion on stocks. H&R has been known to put the wrong stocks on their rifles ocassionally.

Over the last few years i have found that H&R will mix and match the stocks they offer just to have something diffrent to put out , so if you don't find what you want , just keep looking it may be at the next store .  ;)

Several years ago I bought my first Handi (new) and it was the.22mag Sportster (NR) serial; it had the "humped stock and no sights on it with scope rail attached. Also bought a youth model at the same time, it to, came that way.

A couple years ago, I bought a .22 mag Sportster with scope rail mounted..included Monte Carlo stock. I added the .17 HMR & Long Rifle , both equipped the same way.
This year I bought a Versa-pack .22LR/.410...both wore "iron" sights and it was a plain, non-Monte, youth stock.
I traded the stock (via GB classified) for a full-sized Monte Carlo.
