New to the board but have questions
« on: January 27, 2007, 02:47:11 PM »
I am getting my new H&R ultra varmiter in this week i am going to fit it with a nikon buckmasters 4x14x40.  I got a .243 caliber and my question is has anyone had any luck shooting Winchester Ballistics through them. I use these in all my other rifles and they always seem to pattern the best, just wondering if any one had shot them through there H&R because this is my first one to own.

Hello BlakeH and welcome.

Not sure what you mean by Winchester Ballistics?  Is that factory ammo?

Welcome aboard BlakeH, I have no info on the .243 and don't own one but I am sure someone here will offer some suggestions. Are you refering to Winchester Ballistic Tip Ammo? What grain bullets? Are they factory rounds or have you loaded some yourself using those bullets? If so what is the load?. I am sure those are all questions that have to be answered before any good answers can be given....<><.... :)

yes there supreme Ballistic silvertips i think they are 95 grain in .243 if i remeber right just wondering if any one has any experience with these through H&R bull barrels, i know all rifles pattern different but i dont want to spend a boat load on 20 differnent kinds of ammo i want to narrow it down to a few brands when i sight it in an see what does the best. I bought the gun mainly for long range coyote huning.
Thanks
Blake

Mac shot the 55gr in his 243 Ultra before he sold it to Mitchell, they shot excellent!

I had much better luck with the 95grainers...This is a handload with Reloader 22...and it was as fast as I could load & fire...It's the second group in a group of 5 that I managed in less than 3 minutes...2 holes in the bottom..then the 3 at the top..

I would say you'll have good luck with the factory ammo in it...The Supreme line has always been a benchmark load for me...Don't have sticker shock when you go to buy it though...it has gone up dramatically over the past year... The picture Quick posted was with the factory offering of the 55 grainers..

I've talked myself into getting another barrel this month..and I hope it shoots as good as that one did...

Mine shoots the 100gr Federal Power-shoks and 95gr Fusion reeeeal good, the Power-shoks aren't expensive, worth a try, specially for barrel break in, then try the good stuff!! ;)
