Febrile
« on: January 27, 2007, 02:23:50 PM »
Gentlemen,

I had a bad flare up of the disease this past week.  My fever was reduced by purchasing an Ultra Varmint Fluted 22-250 and a Sprortster 17 HMR.  I am doing fine for now.

Now for the questions:

1.  Has anyone had success with a particular brand/grain of 22-250 factory ammo?  I don't handload yet.

2.  Should rimfire barrels be cleaned less frequently than centerfires?

Thank you in advance.

Congrats on the new rifles!! I've only tried the Rem UMC ammo in my .22-250 Ultra, it doesn't shoot well, so I can't help ya with factory ammo there. I shoot handloaded 50gr Vmax and H4895 that works very well tho.

I have four 17hmrs, one of em is a Sportster, after break in, I don't clean it until accuracy drops off, then it takes 20 -30 shots after cleaning before it shoots good again. You'll do well for yourself to polish the bore per the FAQ info, it will save you some range time. You may need to try different types of ammo to find the best, just like any other rimfire.

Quick is right about the rimfires and especially the .17's but the .22's as well, they seem to shoot better with a few fouling shots down the barrel....<><.... :)

I'll clean the action on my .22s but I bet i put 5000 rounds or more down the barrel before it gets cleaned. Rimfires are just  diffrent from about anything else. 8)
