got one from Bullberry ( 24" HB stainless) but haven't had time to shoot much, maybe 10 rounds.  lots of info at
http://shortmags.org/shortmags/

I have a 300 wm and may be interested in selling 300wsm.

PJ,
It will be fine if you don't push it to what you could achieve in a bolt gun or falling block action.  But there are several guys who have tried it and have been frustrated because they did not get the performance (velocity) they had hoped for and case life was very short.
If you need a reason for owning another barrel, by all means buy one!
If it was me, I wouldn't.  I guess it all depends on what you want to get out of it.

Ck is right.  The case is too short so when it expands in the chamber there is not enough case contact with the chamber walls to hold the case in place and that cause too much rearward pressure on the frame.  It thought about this around a year or so ago and basically was told by the barrel maker that case life was very short due to the barrel expanding so much around the chamber.  There isn't alot of meat left when cut a chamber for those short fat rounds.

FWIW,

Dr. Sharps from the T/C list just streched a frame with a Lazzeroni round and VV offers a replacement barrel in any chambering in exchange for your VVCG Lazzeroni barrel.  Not sure what the details are for the replacement barrel, but if they are doing this, then IMO anything larger than a Win mag case is too much for the Encore.

Don Bower and JD Jones both use 308 case head dia.'s for there wildcats.  IMO, they both push the Contender and Encore as far as they can safely.

Been thinking of a 338-450Marlin or 35-450 maybe a 375-450.VVC makes a 338-45-70.Why not a 450 case...? Cases are stronger than the 45-70.I think a 35-450Marlin would be a elk and bear droper and then some.

PJ, if you are thinking of this for your encore frame then you wouldn't notice any difference between the two.   With the encore you can load the 45-70 hotter than you care to shoot it.
