22rf 14" contender for benchrest
« on: January 16, 2007, 10:02:13 AM »
I want to shoot my super 14 barrel in 22rf in a 75yd bench rest match. What kind of accurary can I except, what is a good choice of ammo. I put a 16x rifle scope and shot it at 50 ft. indoors and they went in one hole using sk standard plus, its been to cold to shoot outside so any ammo suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks drags

Hey, Drags...  Have you checked the other post about .22 Rimfire Contenders?  In that you may notice I did some bragging on how well my Super 14 Stainless .22 L.R. Match did with Federal American Eagles.  The point I'm trying to make here is that I'd called T/C and was talking to them about how super accurate it was.  When they asked what ammo I'd shot and I told them they said that was par 'cuz they cut their match chambers for the Federal ammo.  When I close on this ammo it engraves the nose with the riflings.  I know this ammo isn't supposed to be match grade but it sure acts like it.  Perhaps some of their match grade stuff would do even better.  It'd be a good place to start.  Federal makes some pretty good ammo in all grades.  Hope this helps.

Thanks lovedogs, I am going to try some different ammo when the weather breaks to see how it shoots at 75 yds. I have shot the gun at 50 ft. and it shot in one hole with sk standard plus ammo but 75 yds is another story. I also ordered new grips and a benchrest forend from from Geroiga Jim which should help. But from what I've read the 14' contender match barrel   is capable  of shooting as good as most rifles.
