What is the difference between a factory bull barrel and a custom shop bull barrel?  Lokking to get a 17hmr barrel and wasn't sure of the differences.

In a new  factory (2007) barrel, the only lengths available are 14" in pistol and 23" in rifle..from the custom shop just about any sane length is available..

auto,
It is my understanding that the quality of the barrel and the chambering is no different than factory, but as mentioned more options.
Sometimes "custom" means better quality barrel and or a guarunteed accuracy level, but not in this instance.

factory barrels still have some taper as you look towards muzzle. custom barrels can be any diameter past the frame. I have seen some way over an inch past the frame. they are usually for bench shooting and extra waight helps recoil.
