Scope for CZ550
« on: December 31, 2006, 02:39:00 PM »
Happy New Year's (Eve) everyone!  Hope you have/had a safe one!  Anyway, looking for a scope for my CZ550 in 375 H&H.  All the feedback I've received so far has said "Leupold scopes"...I'll follow everyone's advice and get a lower-powered Leupold variable, like a 1.5-5.  Question is, what's the difference between a VX-II and a VX-III?  Eye relief?  Clarity?

You'll like either of those two.  However, I wouldn't rule out one of the older fixed power steel tube Weavers.  I have a Weaver  k 1.5  Micro-Trac on my 550  416  Rigby.  Lots of eye relief simple and rugged-cheap as well.

Thanks, hornetman.  Think I'll stick with the variable, though...the 375 can shoot pretty flat out to 250 yards.  I'll need the extra magnification.

I believe the difference is supposed to be the coatings are better on he VX-III.  I have a few VX-II's  (1-4 power), and a VX-III 1.5-5 on my 6.5 CZ.  Both are nice, the 1.5 is REALLY nice.  The VX-III is a good bit more money.  I got mine new in the cellophane off E-bay for under 300$ which is the biggest reason I ended up with it.  If you have a little time, try E-bay.  I threw out all my cheap scopes in a fit last year, and replaced 3 or 4 of them with Leupolds, all for quite a discount.  Have fun, and I bet that .375 shoots great.

The Leupold VXII is a 1X4 and the VXIII is a 1.5X5. T Here are the differences below. I have both,  my CZ 550 416 Rigby I have the Vara XIII and I have my VXII ready to go on my Encore 45-70 barrel when it get here. I think the eye relief is one the best in the Leupold scopes
