527 Hornet How Good!
« on: December 01, 2006, 02:13:40 PM »
I have a 22 Hornet in a model 93 Sav. its the same as the M 40 sav with a cheaper stock non adjustable trigger. It shoots 1 1/4"groups at
100 yds. When I first got it and tried fac. shells I had 8 out of 25 that stuck in the chamber after firing them. I loaded up some once fired cases
and on the first shot had a complete case seperation, we got the case out and sent it back to Sav. They had it back to me in 2 weeks with a note
saying they repaired it test fired it and it passed.  It works fine with Fac, shells but if I reload the cases neck or full length they stick in the chamber
or start to seperate. I only paid $140.00 for it and I have a couple of people who are interrested in it.
I would like to replace it with a CZ I own 4 CZs and really like them. If anyone has one in 22 Hornet what kind of groups will it shoot, and how is it
to reload for. any problems with case life, I beleive its .223 can I use .224 bullets.
If anyone has a full lengthed stocked 527 22 Hornet Id really like to here how it shoots.
                                                                                                                        Thanks Deathray

I have one in the extra fancy wood version that I'm happy with. They can have a rough bolt throw so be sure to check action before accepting it, the safety toggle can stick out and rubon the bolt. Trigger is great. They shoot good and have MOA potential. Both 223 and 224 work but reloading for the hornet is not for the impatient, they can be very picky, primers, neck sizing, bullet and weight with its particular powder can be aggravating to find what the rifle likes. But when those little holes are all touching you become addicted. Find one you like and buy it, you won't be sorry. The one I had ordered was a full lengh stock one but the bolt would barely even budge, so I bought the American sporter version. The manlicher version looks better in the catalog then on the salescounter, but thats me and others will differ. So far my cases have been loaded 4 times and look good.

The likely problem with the case seperations with reloads is you are rezing them too much. After first firing just neck size and the cases will last much longer. I've a CZ 527 FS and it'll shoot under an inch with factory ammo and reloads. I have 4 hornets and including a Kimber and the CZ is easily the best shooter!!

I have a cz american in a hornet and love it. the Hornet is a real sweetheart. If you are woried about case life try the 221 fireball almost as mild as a hornet with an unrimmed, necked case and you can hot rod it if you like. I have 2 527's in fireball and they are both 1/2" guns. If you tweek it a little the 527 is a great gun. the trigger is really easy to adjust. I set mine at 8oz and 24oz. If you buy a 527 you will never regret it. be aware though the wood does vary in quality quite abit.
