.243 bullet/loads
« on: December 04, 2006, 03:21:52 AM »
Here's my question, and I know it maybe asking alot of what I was looking for. I'm ordering a new Handi combo in .243. I was hoping that I could use just one bullet /load combo for both deer and coyotes. I'm getting the rifle more for my daughter, but I could be using it on coyotes too. The thing is, I don't reload so I'll be sticking with factory stuff, and want a load that will work well on deer, but not blow a coyotes into pieces. Anybody else use just one load for both? suggestions?asking too much?

Yup...Here's a good one to try...I had exceptional accuracy with this bullet out of my 243...Mine were handloads of the same bullet.....but the factory ammo is pretty impressive...and is usually one I'll use first...http://www.winchester.com/products/catalog/cfrdetail.aspx?symbol=SBST243A&bn=5&type=13

This is a 5 shot group fired as fast as I could load & shoot them...[/img]

Another good choice...and somewhat less expensive...is the Federal Fusion ammo...http://www.fusionammo.com/FusionBallistics.html or even their Nosler Partition or Triple shock x bullet ammo would be good too..http://www.federalcartridge.com/ballistics/Ammo_Search.aspx?act=choose&firearm=1&s1=1

try some federal 80g softpoints
about 10.50 a box around here
they will work on coyotes and whitetails and will kick a tad less than 100gs for her

in my gun (an old Sako) they do a sub 1/2 group at 200yards
I have tried numerous factory loads in this gun and I am very happy with these
I have some hornady light magnum 100gs that group the same, albeit about a 1/4" lower, 26 bucks a box

Try Hornady 100-grain light mags.  They are excellent on deer and should not be to bad on coyotes.  Last year I took a Doe and a Spike with this round.  Small hole going in, not to big of a hole coming out (under 2” ).  The Does was shot at about 25 yards and the Spike was shot at 90 yards.  The Does ran about 100 Yards with part of her lung coming out of the exit wound, the Spike was down right there.
Everyone has a game plan, until they get punched in the mouth.

Live everyday as if it is your last!  Because someday you will be right.

you will have to buy several loads to see what the gun likes
I for one don't at all believe you need "premium" bullets and that if the gun shoots basic stuff well and she shoots it more, that's more important...
