Anyone use a Encore shotgun barrel for trap shooting?
« on: December 04, 2006, 08:04:00 AM »
I was curious if anyone here uses an Encore barrel for trap shooting?  And if not how people like them if they just use it for turkey or what ever.

Buckskin,

I ask this same question about a month ago and I watched the post slowly sink into the pit of unanswered post. I was thinking of picking up a 12 guage for Turkey....just not the barrel that is designed "just for" turkey.

Maybe you'll get a response from a barrel user this time around!

I have a 20 gauge with rib & chokes.  I haven't used it at all, but I believe it could/might be pretty good for trap with the high comb on the Encore stock.

I have many encore barrels, including the turkey shotgun barrel.  I love the encore for targets that are not flying, but the encore does not feel very good to me for wingshooting.  Having said that, I have never had the vent rib barrel, and would love to try it - but my expectations would be low.

TRick,

You raise an excellent point. I need to compare my LOP and comb height of my pro-hunter to that of my favorite shotgun and see how they "stack up".

The pro-hunter is relatively light with the flex stock and the forarm. So, if the stock "fits right" when I pull it up for wing shooting, that will say a lot.

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about one of these barrels myself.  To be honest the largest thing keeping me frmo going ahead and buying one is that my frame is stainless and the barrels are only offered blued.  I have a pro hunter thumbhole stock on mine and I'd love to try some winged shooting with it.  I don't see why the encore wouldn't be able to work well for anything provided good shot placement.  I'm not one of those guys that'll drop a grand on a shotgun of all things.  It's been my experience that if a guy can't hit anything with a 12 ga, it probably isn't the gun.  Anyone know if they make these barrels in stainless?  Christmas is coming up.  :)

I don't know of anyone who makes them in ss. But in my opinion I think a ss frame and a blued barrel look very sharp together.
