Boys first deer

After properly outfitting him with his new/used ultra hunter in .308 with the managed recoil loads. My boy age 11 got his first deer monday morning. 250 yards.

A day that will be remembered for a lifetime....

I think it should be noted that this is a perfect example of one of the "upsides" of hunting/shooting. For those out there in our society who are against the right to bear arms, please take a look at this young man's face. This young man has obviously been taught safety and respect for firearms and will carry these lessons with him for a lifetime. A father is very proud right now for his son's success in the field. In return, this young man should be very proud to have a father who shared his knowledge and passion of the outdoors.

Pooter said it best .... "Great job .... Get R Done!!!!"

One question .... what bullet was your son using in his .308? Was it a reload?

Congratulations, to both your son and you. I'm looking at this from at the other side that jb22-250 is, he is waiting for his son to be old enough and I am looking back at my son's first deer. You my friend are at that wonderful central point in time that fathers and sons or daughters should all expierence, thier first game animal, and when it is the quintisential North American big game animal, the whitetail deer, as they say in Maine, "It don't get much better than this"....<><.... :)

I am in South Dakota. Mule deer and yes he has been always taught safety first and foremost and has been shooting with me since he could hold a gun at age 2 or 3. I agree 100% with bigjeepman. I am very thankful for the opportunities afield with him. My wife and daughter shoot with us but dont hunt, thats ok. My boy has helped me drag many a deer out before he got the chance at "his own", so he has earned it.

I want to congratulate your son for a successful hunt and a good shot at 250 yards!!

The best hunting memories that I have are the hunts that I enjoyed with my boys & watching them experience there first hunting successes. They learned safety first & a respect for the animals we hunted as your son has. And yes, the smile on their faces is priceless!

It was a commercial Remington "managed recoil". Advertised at half the recoil of a regular 308 load. 125 gr core lokt. Worked well.
