What is up with the whelen availability?
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:37:34 PM »
Since I now work at Gander Mtn., I have been constantly checking the availability of the Handi in .35 whelen at Accusport and Bill Hicks...  Neither wholesaler has gotten one in yet!  Are they behind in production or something?

Sports South doesn't have any either, they're pretty popluar, so it's not surprising.

Last year I begged them to find a leftover Whelen barrel and was told they couldn't give them away.  You would think they would have some of the calibers left after they quit listing them.  Maybe the question should have been: "What odd things are stuck away in the back?".  Now they can't seem to make enough?  Maybe they misjudged.  So?  Do I send in my receiver and wait to see if they really have a barrel to install?  I don't want to wait months and then either get offered a different caliber or get the gun back with nothing.

"Are they also out of barrels?"

When I called last week, I got a rather rude person with:  "Send it in.  $85.00"  No information on how busy they really are right now, hunting season is busy, spring is slower.  The last addition took only 2 weeks total including transit.  That is better than 6 weeks to be without one of my favorite guns.  I wonder if there are barrels because they seem to not be making any finished guns at all.  There is a gun show this weekend, you never know what turns up--usually lots of overpriced beat up stuff, but I remember a .280 for $175 with decent scope, wish I had bit now.  Got the .243 with scope for $200.  Brother has possession right now.  I want the Whelen for deep timber, there are other options.
