Dovetail problems
« on: November 17, 2006, 03:16:08 PM »
I have a badger barrel that has a large dovetail like .450 or 7/16 or something like that it surely isn't a 3/8.  Now the dovetail was cut for a Smith globe sight in Arizona but I don't have that sight anymore, what can I do, haven't found any globe front sights with the larger cut. Oh, by the way what is a Euro dovetail, is that the larger cut?
Also is there a shim or something that I can use on a 3/8th dovetail sight? How about welding the 3/8 and file it down to fit?

One could file out a filler blank then cut the smaller dovetail into that.. It would be a pain but I've not seen anything to fix this problem before. What sight are you intending to install? A filler blank can be had and that tapped to allow a ramp to be screw down to it. The blade could then be afixed to the ramp as normal..

this barrel is for long range creedmoor matches, I need a good tunnel/globe sight but i can only fine 3/8 inch dovetail sights and I need to fine a large type sight or some kind of way to shim up a 3/8 to fill the gap. someone said the c. sharps might have 450 size global sights. guess I'll call them and see what they have. thanks so far for the help.
