WIN 94 in .450M
« on: November 16, 2006, 09:45:00 PM »
Did this gun sold a lot and any feedback about it. From the catalog, I could see it has a standard receiver, not the reinforced one like the Big Bore. Did they use a better steel because the working pressure of the.450M is higher and furthemore, because of its size, less steel mainly at the breech area and where the barrel is screwed in the frame.

I prefer the Win 94 because it is lighter than the Marlin although I hate the muzzle brake because of the horrendous noise.

I think the .450 was based on the heavy duty receiver just like the 444.  I've got one of the 444 Timber Carbines - LOVE IT!  I didn't get a 450 because I've already got a 45-70.

Boarhunter - the Winchester 94 in 450 Marlin is the 'AE' or Angle Eject action, which is the reinforced action.  Those Winchesters are fully capable of handling the 450 Marlin and that caliber in the Winchester 94 is one of the best field combinations you could ask for - light to carry, easy to handle and powerful enough for anything on the North American Continent, period.

Muzzle Brake??  Did those Winchesters come ported?  Probably did to help with the recoil and yes, the porting will really sound off loudly (just like my Timber Carbine), which is why hearing protection in the form of some of those 'muffs' that quiet the recoil but allow you to hear better work well for many folks who use ported or 'braked' rifles.  However, and I forget where I saw this, one of our posters had a 'dressed' Timber Carbine that carried a bit of a 'barrrel extention' or something that covered the ports (maybe it was a Black Shadow, I can't recall exactly) that helped cut down the porting noise.  Maybe that would help.  Mikey.

As a matter of fact, I own a Win 94 in 444M, standard barrel length  and NO muzzle brake. The receiver is reinforced, a bit bulkier around where the the lock is, but I don't see this reinforcement on the picture of the Win94 in 450M. true there is no hole for the safety on this receiver as it is the new one with the tang safety.

Recoil is stiff but in hunting situation, I don't really mind.
Anyway for the 450M availibility is now compromised with the closure of the Win factory. Too bad.
