Purchased older H & R Huntsman 45 Cal.
« on: October 29, 2006, 03:03:26 PM »
I found an older (I don't Know the age) H & R huntsman 45 cal. muzzleloader at a gun show today. Serial # AL 298581. It has never been fired. It has the older style slide in breech plug with the nipple which uses #11 caps. It is in great shape and I would like to use it. What types of powder and bullets can I use? I have some American Pioneer Powder FFG and some CVA 45 cal. power Belt Bullets. Thanks for the help.

seems like the old ones were set up for round balls with a real slow twist.
my new one has a faster twist for sabots.

Proud Dad,

Looks like you scored a 33 year old virgin! :o Was made in 1973 and should have 1 turn in 56" rifling. You might get some short bullets to fly good out of her. Nice score!  Post a picture if you can. :)
