Rifle barrels on old mid 70's shotgun receiver

OK, I know that it would be better to just buy a new handi with the SB2 receiver for shooting rifle cartridges, but is there any problem in shooting some of the low pressure rounds like the 22 hornet, 30-30 & 45-70 in the older receivers which were originally offered with the optional barrels ?   Has anyone fired alot of these rounds in the older receivers without problems, particularly in the firing pin hole area ?  Thanks.

this brings up a question I have.  I have a 10 yr old .410 handi.  I would like to get another barrell to shoot something light such as a .17 hmr or .22 hornet or even .22 lr. 
would this be possible?    dangerous?
Has anyone done this?  What do you think Tim?

It's worthless to me now, grandma bought it for one of the kids.

You cannot put a rimfire barrel on a shotgun or rifle action. As for the hornet it might be ok other people have done it.

You CAN put a rimfire barrel on a shotgun or a rifle frame, and it may lock up and look very good......but that's all it will do!!! The firing pin will strike the center of the rimfire cartridge and do nothing since the priming is in the rim of all rimfire rounds, hence the name rimfire. ;)

FWIW, H&R NEF will be building 1000 3 barrel combo that will include rimfire barrels that work on the centerfire frame that comes with them, they already produce the Versa Pack which is a .410/22Lr combo, the rimfire bore is offset so the firing pin will strike the rim.

So, with this .410 handi I can do what?

Get another shotgun barrell  12ga. 3" (does factory have to do that?)
Get a blackpowder barrell
Get a .22 hornet barrell and hope it fits or up to what caliber would it be safe?
Have H&R put a .22 hornet or blackpowder barrell on it  (will they do that?)

H&R NEF won't fit any barrel to any frame made before 1987.

The accessory barrel that I got for my 30-06, fits on the frame of an old early 70s era H&R Buckbuster 12ga slug gun.  The old slug gun has a fantastic trigger that lets go at around 2 1/2 lbs.  It has turned out to be alot better than the 06 frame.  No transfer bar so I can be real light and slow on the trigger, unlike with the 06 frame.

On that page of the thread, I posted this picture of the Hornet brass.



The 5 cases on the right were fired in an SB1 receiver, the 3 cases on the left were the same load, same barrel, fired on an SB2 receiver.

Here's my conclusion.

I certainly won't ever put a .30-06 barrel on any shotgun receiver!  :o

My .410 was bought about 5-6 yr ago.  but I guess it might be iffy, to try a .22 hornet barrell, don't want to get injured. 
If you guys counsel against it I would be stupid (er) to mess around.
I guess I should just get another Handi and use the .410 for a door stop.
