aftermarket synthetic stock

hi, i have a ruger m77RL MK1 with the tang safety, i was wondering if there was any aftermarket synthatic stocks available for it? any help would be appreciated

Hogue makes a stock for your riflr ,it is a rubber overmold ,my buddy at work has on e on his ruger .270 amd loves it.

Just make sure you don't buy one of those very cheap, very flexible overmolds, that keep shifting around on the barrel.  ;)

i had a look on their site, but they only list stocks for the mark II M77's. are you sure they are available for the mk1 with the tang safety? which are the brands to stay away from?

Bell and Carlson and McMillan make stocks for your gun. I'm sure Rimrock are also available. You may want to check with them to make sure though.

Your right only stocks for mk II ,i would go with what GraigP come up with all are good stocks.

the mcmillan stock for the ruger 77, how big/heavy is it compared to the standard untralight ruger wooden stocks? what affect does fitting them generally have on accuracy?

Take a look at the Bell & Carlson Medalist, I'm pretty sure they make em for that action.....

These are nice light weight stocks, and come with an aluminum bedding system.

Welp....

Looks like they don't make the Medalist for that action....

But you can get Bell and Carlson Carbelite Classic Stock Ruger 77 Long Action with Tang Safety Synthetic Black.

They also have various thumbhole stocks for the M77 LA tang Safety....

I'm rather new here, but I'm not sure about posting links to retailers...  But there's an internet retailer her in the Midwest that carries them for $144.....

thats a pity as i have the short action ultralight in .308, it is hard for me to buy from the states as i live in New Zealand

Not sure if they ship to NZ....  You'd have to call them.  I've talked to these guys before, and they seemed very helpful.

The best advice that I can give you is TRY THEM OUT BEFORE YOU BUY THEM.

I have HS Precision and McMillan stocks on several rifles.  Personally, I like the McMillan quality the best.  Just as importantly, though, the McMillan stock fits me the best.

The Medalist stock is another very well made stock (although not as good as McMillan, but just as good as HS Precision).  My personal problem with the Medalit,though, is that I doesn't fit me well.  Specifically, the pistol grip portion of the stock is too long for me (meaning that I like having a steeper curve).

Again, all three are good quality stocks, but you must hold each of them in your hands and see which one fits you best.

I've owned 3 McMillans, 1 Hogue, God knows how many cheapo injection molded ones that come factory, and one of Wayne's Oregunsmithing/Beavercreek stocks.  Wayne makes them himself and installs them on your rifle the way YOU want it.....any design any action.

McMillans are hell for stout. Wayne's are lighter weight but very strong.
