357 max / mag accuracy on conversions
« on: December 09, 2010, 03:00:56 PM »
Hi,

was wondering how the .357 mag's shoot in the .357 max conversions?  Have you notice any major difference in group size shooting the shorter magnums?
My FFL holder requires any firearms to be shipped to them via another FFL holder.  So, If I make an offer on a firearm please let me know if this is capable of being done from the start.  Please do NOT mark an item "SPF" to me until we "both" are happy with and in agreement on shipping, funds and the transaction in general.   Thanks

If the throat is properly reamed with a pilot that is centered on the bore line, the MAGs will shoot better after it has been reamed to MAX. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

WELCOME and Merry Christmas!!
Most find they shoot just fine. But all barrels are different your results could vary.

I haven't fired any thru my second maxi yet. But My original shot them pretty well. It even shoots wad-cutter 38's into minute of beer-can too!!

Mine doesn't shoot the mag loads quite as well as it did  but is accurate with the maxi rounds. As CW said, each gun has it's own personality.

Any of you guys use the http://www.hornady.com/store/35-Cal-.358-180-gr-SP-Single-Shot-Pistol/ bullets?

Look very promising for the maximum...

I will be hopefully hunting hog next year with this or my #3 in .44mag

Accurate Arms 1680 powder, a small rifle primer and a Hornady 180 SSP is THE recipe for an accurate shooting Maximum!!!

The 180 XTP is also a good one!!

My Handi, shortie, .357 Max shoots all of them well.  .38s, mags and maxies.  I can't see any difference before or after reaming.......ya gotta remember, though, I'm a lousey shot.  I can hit my barn from the inside.....sometimes.  The doc's taking the cataract off my left eye Jan 11, so that should help.

Hey Sparky,
Share your Jeepin' pics with CW and you'll have a friend for life. ;) I have a good friend near you in Huntley, he's a gun nut too, but won't do the whole internet thing. Like CW said, stick with those 180gr SSPBs and you will be hard-pressed to find that you need nothing else.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny,

Man, I miss that jeep.   that was my 4th or 5th jeep.  But that one was an 05 Rubicon Sahara Unlimited.  I built it with a full JKS suspension and EVERY thing you can imagine as far as after market skid plates etc.  Awesome front and rear custom made bumpers, wench.... You name it.  The 05 Jeep Jamboree was the most fun I have ever had with a off road toy.  But being a responsible adult...   I had to eventually sell it.  bought 3 other Jeeps after that one.  But none of them ever compared.  Sniff....  Right now Jeepless.  but it will change soon.

I have also had a bunch of them... ::) ::)

I currently have only one left. A 1999 TJ with everything imagionable and many most never thought of!!!

I have recently made a switch to ATV's as my pop really enjoys them and never really took to the jeep. Since my mom passed he has been living with my wife and I . So I look for things we can do together, he isn't getting any younger and neither am I!! I'm not going to be one who wished he spent more time when it was available...

SO we bought Polaris Sportsman's last fall!!

I had one new back in the mid '80's but only one friend was interested. So the affection kinda faded.

But last summer, we did a vacation with a good friend, his wife and dad. My dad, wife and I made the group six. We had a GREAT time in Northern Maine, Jackman area. It was a fishing, relaxing and ATVing week. We rode for three full days, two up on three machines. To my surprise both my POP and Wife really enjoyed it!! This was after ALL of us convinced my pop to try it. He arrived home and in one weeks time he owned his machine. A brand new Sportsman XP 550!! LOL I bought my wife a 330 TrailBoss as I was not sure if she would take to driving for herself. I bought myself a 700 so I would have a bit extra HP is she chose to be a passenger. SO far she likes her machine, so maybe next year she will get a bigger and better one too!!

I sold a 1988 2DR XJ on 31's with a 3" lift. A 1989 XJ 4dr commuter 2WD. A 1986 CJ with all the good stuff, D44, D300 Tcase, 258 engine disc brakes, granny gear tranny. yada yada yada. I also sold a favorite, a 1898 Comanche, all built nearly as much as the TJ. 6" lift, 33: tires Detroit locked both ends, 4:56 gears... A garage full of parts..all gone kinda went cold turkey. MAN I missed that MJ for two months!! Kinda stupid its just a truck. Next spring the proceeds will be rolled into a 4Door, PU tow rig for the big trailer we also bought to haul the ATV's! Going to WV to see the Hatfield and McCoy trails as well as another Maine trip at the end of the summer!! FUN TIMES!!!

Picked up the new rifle tonight.  Not bad for $280.00 including tax.  Only issue I had was with the scope I was going to use.  Darn thing would not change magnification...  stuck at 1.5X.  So that gave me a good excuse to order a new Burris 3-9x32 Timberline scope.  :)
