my new savage weather warrior
« on: September 16, 2006, 04:15:21 PM »
I have just taken delivery of my new savage a stainless synthetic l/hand in 7mm08. I mounted a new weaver 3-9x38 and took it to the range yesterday. I tried two types of ammo federal 150gr and highland 140gr. Boy this thing shoots I got a 1" group with the federal and a .75 with the highland. The rifle is well balanced and pretty light. The accutrigger is really very good and is now set at about 2lb. finaly having a l\h rifle is a revalation. The only down side of the set up are the internal mag and the stock is very flexible at the forend 4" but that should not be a problem for it's intended use.

I am off to fiordland deer hunting for five days on thursday so I will let you know how I get on.

I don't have an extensive amount of experience with that particular model, but I do with the cartridge - the 7mm-08.

The 7mm-08 happens to be one of my favorite cartridges for whitetail.  It has relatively low recoil, yet has good terminal velocity and energy.  Just as importantly, the 7mm-08 comes from the .308, which is well known as being a very accurate round.

Congrats on the gun and groups.

I bought my son a Savage 16 FCSS with the Accu-trigger in 7mm-08 for Christmas and topped it with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40. It's a great rifle and the 7mm-08 is absolutely.....SWEET! However, the deer I've killed with 7mm-08s over the years sure don't like it! ;D

Sorry my 7mm08 is not a savage.  I had to reply because of Zachary.  I read good things about the 7-08 for years.  I had the chance two summers to buy a remington model 7 7mm08 SS off of gunbroker for a buy it now price for $310 shipped.  I worried my butt off till it arrived( I knew this was to good to be true.).  The gun arrived a couple of minor knicks, I adjusted the trigger and replaced a stripped out scope mount screw.  I just can't hardly put in down.  I have only harvested one small buck and a very nice sized hog.  What really turns me on is that it shoots everything I feed it about an inch.  It will shoot 3 of my handloads 1/2 inch or less.  For my kind of hunting(in Missouri) it just can't be beat.  Take care.
