Quick - Need Advice on Used FA 83!
« on: August 27, 2006, 11:52:04 AM »
My local shop has a used Model 83 Premier Grade in 454 for $1199.  It has a 7.5 inch barrel and is in good overall shape.  The barrel crown looks good, although the bore has some copper fouling in it.  The box that goes with the gun is brown, not blue like the current ones.  I'm wondering how old it may be.  The shop says it hasn't many rounds through it but of course its hard to tell.  I held off on buying it today because I'd really like a 6 inch gun.  What do you all think.  Is this one of those super deals I shouldn't let get away?  By the way, no manual with the box.  Opinions appreciated!!  Thanks guys.

That's a bit high. Now I realize prices are all local but you SHOULD be able to get a NEW Field Grade for that or darn little more. It might not be an awful price but it's for sure no super jump on it rat now bargain either. Or at least it wouldn't be around here.

The FA website shows the field grad '83 at $1630 GB.  You must have some pretty generous gun dealers down your way.  Let me know just where you live and when I retire I'll just move there and start buy'n guns in a serious way!

The place where I buy will order one for $100 over his actual cost. He's sold several to folks living here in Bama who post on this site. I'm pretty sure when Dennis got his Premier he didn't pay but about $1700 for it.

I live in CA. , here we cant beat the prices the on guns America. The best price I saw for a preimer was 1250 from a ffl , here local if you can find a good used feild grade there $1100+ and a priemer is 1400+, there is an occasional bargin  but you best not leave the store to think it over  . Around here a like new used quality handgun of any type is only discounted about 25% and will go down from there according to condition .

A Mod. 83 with 7 1/2 inch barrel is the best for handling balance IMHO. Don't worry about the copper fouling---they all do that unless you shoot only lead. The fouling is removable. But it!   Gene
