What barrels can I add ?
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:40:08 AM »
  As I stated in post below, I have purchased a Versa-pack .22/.410 that i am setting up for a truck gun base action (SCY-42S).
  Since the .22 barrel is bored offset, I assume the base is centerfire for the .410...

   What other barrels can I add to this unit for even more versatility ?

This could stir the poo. :)

It is a sb1 action so 12, and 20 etc should work fine.  I havent found the difference between the early (old HR)  sb1 frames and the new sb1 frames. HR used to sell a 30-30, 44 mag etc that you could put on their frames.

From previous discussions on this subject, unfortunately, H&R won't fit any barrels to the Versa-pack frame. :(

 Thanks Pills..  Wasn't sure if it was an SB1..
  Quick..guess that answers the question, sure wish I could use a low pressure barrel on it..

  Too bad..my Sportster barrels won't even fit...

Ironglow, I didn't say you couldn't use a low pressure barrel on it, just that H&R won't fit a barrel to it. ;) ;) ;) I don't know their reasoning on it, if the frame will stand the pressure of the .410 which is right up there with the hottest of all shotgun gauges, it should at least be able to be fitted with other shotgun barrels or the .45/.410 barrel. Hows the fit of either of the versa barrels on another frame? Maybe the frame has special dimensions to preclude other barrels? Dunno. ???

  Tim;

    The Versa barrels snap nicely into place with both my Handi(223) and my Sportster. O course, the Sportster barrels won't work with the Versa frame (Versa being essentially centerfire).

   I even tried an old (70s) Shikari .44 mag barrel...fits right into the Versa.

    I am encouraged with the possibility of a handgun cartridge barrel for the versa..now if NEF brings out a .32 H&R mag..hmmm

    I wonder if .357 mag is more intense than a.410 ? ....              oops! the .357 is more intense..
