muzzleoading barrel for sidekick
« on: July 20, 2006, 12:08:44 PM »
Has anyone heard of any plans for NEF to produce a muzzleoading shotgun barrel for the sidekick? I have e-mailed  nef twice about this with no response, so I guess I can take that as a "no". I think a 12 guage turkey barrel would go over well. I know I would sure buy one. Maybe if a bunch of us emailed them about it they might think about it.

SA,

We have been dreaming about a Turkey Thumper barrel for the Huntsman/Sidekick for a few years now, must be H&R/NEF don't share our thoughts. >:( I know a bunch of us that would buy one if they ever get around to making one. Right now I shoot a White Tominator/White Thunder 12ga, It does a good job but I would still buy a barrel or whole gun if H&R/NEF ever makes one.

I also have a Knight TK2000 in full camo.

It would be nice if we could at least get a barrel with a 12ga bore without a chamber. Then all it would take is drill and tap for a breech plug threaded in the back.

I'm with Busta; we have had several topics in the past on a muzzleloading shotgun. It would be nice if H&R/NEFwould just look at the issue ::)

Why don't you just buy a 12 gauge barrel for a H&R 12 gauge, cut breach plug threads in it and have one for your huntsman?  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

trotterlg,

This could be done, but the chamber area makes the breech end very thin. The chamber and forcing cone are also very long (3" plus cone) and you would have to make a plug that would either have a very long flash channel or be dished out deep enough to hold the powder charge without leting the shotcup come in contact, thus creating a void. The only part that scares me is that the chamber area once threaded would be weakend considerably and the plug would have to be very long to reach the bore. You couldn't leave a powder chamber larger than the bore, the pressure would just be to much to handle and would esentially be a pipe-bomb.

If I could get a 12ga barrel without a chamber, just a straight bore with choke tube threads, it would have already been done 3 years ago. Just dont think H&R/NEF is gonna do that for us though. :'(

They could just make it easy and give us what we have been wanting for years.

Since were dreaming, I want a TDC barrel with vent rib, choke tube threads, tapped for scope base and a carrierless 209 plug that I could later convert to .25 ACP if desired. Is that too much to ask? Must be, cause they aren't listening. :(
