First Post and my Remington 700 XCR .338 RUM gets it done!
« on: July 17, 2006, 11:53:46 PM »
Hey Folks,
My wife, and I moved to Alaska from Virginia two and a half years ago.

So,I been trying to get a bear for that long, and finally succeeded last month.

I recently purchased an XCR in .338 RUM at Sportsmans Warehouse in Anchorage, and I mounted a Leupold 3.5-10X40
on it.
My handloads consist of Nosler 225 Accubonds with 101 grains of RETUMBO, and Federal Large Magnum primers.

Recently ,on the bear hunt, I took a decent Black bear with it over bait,my first one ever.

The bear did a complete somersault at the shot and got to his feet and maybe went 10 yards and moaned once and expired.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and say I love Remington rifles!! :)

Take care...................

Welcome to our happy family and Congrats on the rifle and the bear! Whereabouts in Alaska are you?

Im starting to like Accubonds more and more, it seems others are as well, you being one of them :)

Congrats on the bear. Whats the 338 rum like to shoot. Sounds like a great all around Alaska rifle.

Well, recoil is not as bad as some tout it to be,especially since it has a Sims pad from the factory.

I also wear a past magnum recoil shield at the range,so I can usually shoot around 30-40 rounds no problem.

As far as accuracy is concerned its better than average, with most groups going well under an inch at 100 yards.

At 8.5 pounds its not cumbersome at all,and balances for me quite nicely.

Regards,.............

Nice bear for sure...looks like at least according to what is in the background, you had something decent to haul it back with, heh? My one friend was going black bear hunting then he was telling me, as he sat in the stand, he got to thinking, "I'm 5 miles from my truck with no way other than me to haul this thing out of here...f*** this" and he quit bear hunting right then and there  :D. So congrats on the bear and welcome to GBO!
