STUPID QUESTION
« on: June 21, 2006, 02:53:00 PM »
OK HERE IT IS.  I  AM THINKING ABOUT HAVING A VERY VERY GOOD GUN SMITH BORE OUT THE FULL LUG UNDER MY SMITH 500 AND FILL IT WITH MERCURY. HE WILL PUT A VERY VERY RELIABLE SYSTEM TO EMPTY IT FOR ANY REASON NEEDED. SHOULD REDUCE THE RECOIL BY ABOUT 20 PERCENT.  DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPIRENCE WITH A MERCURY RECOIL REDUCER. ANY INFORMATIOIN PRO OR CON WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

PAUL

Prebanpaul, I doubt if it would make any noticeable difference - the money would be better spend on a good fitting grip or more ammunition.

Ditto, you are just gonna make it heavier, you want heavy, put on the biggest rubber grip you can find, that'll help.  Though an interesting system (liquid reacts on a curve weather than all at once like a solid steel frame, etc) you aren't going to notice a whole lot of difference.  You could try and put a shark brake on it from a .50BMG  :-D  :-D

mercury recoil reducers
« Reply #3 on: June 22, 2006, 02:32:00 AM »
I don't think a mercury recoil reducer is simply a hole with mercury in it, it's a bit more complicated than that.

If your hole is completely filled with mercury all you will be doing is adding weight.  You'd d obetter to add a scope.

If the hole is not completely full the mercury will be free to move and is liable to ruin your aim.

ok i guess there is a little more need information on this thin.  I reload and have shot my 500 around 700 times.  It already has a burris 2-7 scope on the gun with warne rings.  the gun smith is doing this for me for next to nothing as he has built two of my guns and is a friend.
