If you were looking for a target pistol...you picked the wrong one. This gun is designed for personal defense. Well-placed 3" groups, in a gunfight, should be all you'll need. Aren't most armed conflicts just beyond an arms reach anyway? At ten yards it's probably wise to run and take cover...right?

The way I look at it, I want a personal defense handgun that goes BANG every time you pull the trigger. You'll soon find that your P239 will eat anything your feed it...that's piece of mind you won't find in many semi-autos. You own a great gun.

This is a gun shooting 3 inches at 10 yds benchrest. That translates into over 7 inches at 25 yds. That is not acceptable by any means.

I shoot a Sig 229 in .40 and it has been a flawless gun! I bought my wife a Sig 239 in 9mm and it starting jamming on her quiet a bit when she 1st started to shoot it. I could not figuer out what was happening. As I watched her shoot it looked like she was limp wristing it. She mentioned it was making her nervious with all the jams. After talking with her and watching her shoot I found that she was subconsciously limp wristing it because of being nervious. Now with a firm grip it never jams any more. and has been fine ever sense and she now can out shoot me!

My question is are Sigs pron to jamming when limp wristing? I did this to my 229 just to see what happens and it never jamed ever with several dozzen trys. Why did the 239 jam and 229 did not? Thank you!

I've handed my P239 off to at least a dozen men and women...never a problem. Ran all kinds of ammo though it...works EVERY time.

I supposed you checked for the obvious...perhaps it's time to contact Sig to see what they can do? :?

It has been fine for a while now, no jams. It seem to only do it when she has a light grip in it. My 229 has NEVER done this! The 239 is ok with a strong grip.

Id give it a little more time shooting it, then try it again.

I just picked up a 220ST about 4 weeks ago, and was pretty under whelmed my 1st couple of trips out. Accuracy was no where near what I expected it to be. After a couple hundred rounds a week though, either Im getting used to it, or its breaking in, because now its on par with my Colt Gold Cup, which for me has always been an accurate gun.

Ive put about 1200 rounds through it of Ball, lead SWC, and JHPs without a hitch. Its quickly becoming my favorite pistol.

Im now eyeing a 239 in .40.. :mrgreen:

The 239 that I have is a lot more accurate than my capabilities will allow. I have heard of better than 2" groups but I can't provide that kind of performance.
The little 239 is a short barreled weapon and is not designed to reach out and touch someone like a 5 or 6" barrel will. I have problems with the sight radius on short barreled weapons but as I said i don't use them or expect to use them across a parking lot or would even carry them in the woods as a backup when hunting.
Mine has never given me a hickup with any ammo.
I'm thinking the little thing will come around for your wife and if you spend a little time with it you will come to like the thing also. I carry one quiet often and I guess you could say I like it enough to trust my life on it. I would not do that if I didn't like it.

This was a few years ago when she was learning to shoot and handle a hand gun. Now the gun seems to be fine as it never jams? I think it was the way she was holding it.

That is totally unacceptable to me. Two days ago, I tested my Sig 226 in 9mm at 25 yards and I was severely disappointed. The smallest group of of three tests with different ammo was 5 inches with 115 grain Remington Factory ammo and that was the best group. 7 and 8 inches were the norm. I don't need anyone to tell me that it is acceptable. I can shoot a sling shot better than that.

It also shot 10 inches high at 25 yards.

I had one of the Sigs when they were first imported into this country under the name of Browning BDA in 45 caliber. After trying and failing to get it to shoot at least a 3 inch group, I dumped it. After all the hype made over the Sigs, I decided to try it again. My Department went to the Sig357, so I thought they must be something worthwhile. (I'm retired and I used to select the firearms for the Department).

I'm going to fire lap it with LBT lapping compound to see if I can improve the grouping.

We will see what ole Veral Smith's stuff can do for it.

I have 239 in 9mm and shot 5 - 7" groups at ten yards. However, that is about what I do with any gun and some times worse than that. I let a friend shoot it and in eight shots all were within 3". I have had to realize that my shooting is not as good as some and that maybe it is not the gun?? That is my personal experience only.

I just purchased my p239 (357 sig) and took it to the range yesterday with very immpressive results! 100 rounds with no jams, so much for break in periods, the only surprise was how loud it was! my friend was shooting a Kimber ultra compact 45 and it had more recoil and noise then it! but i'm looking for a accurate self defense weapon that goes bang every time I pull the trigger,I think i've found it.

Tell you what: I'll give you $250 for your P239, since you obviously have a defective pistol. FWIW, I have a B27 target that I totally REMOVED the 'X' ring from, using: GUESS WHAT? A DAO P239 in 9MM! This was done from 7 yards, with a 2-hand Weaver stance.

Sounds very familiar to me.. Almost too familiar. But mine shot worse than yours. Sig sent me a target back with the gun with a ridiculous ragged center group at 15yds. The way that gun I had was shooting you would be glad to keep it on paper.
In the end, I ditched the gun. It just did not fit me. I truly believe it was the trigger pull. I was not then and still not now comfortable with a trigger that gives me no feeback. It was like pressing air. Just no resistance at all. By chance, did yours have night sights on it?
The P239 I had NEVER jammed. It did misfire once on some S&B ammo. But never jammed. It would shoot as fast as you could pull it, but how much good is that if you can't hit a bull in the butt with it.
I've moved on to other brands and styles and feel much better with my shooting now. For me, the P239 just was a huge disappointment because I had always wanted a Sig. And the price I paid I did expect a little more accuracy from it.

i took my p239 chambered in .357 sig and at ten yards 90% of the shots are in a two inch group, the rest are spread out to three inches. again, the best gun i have ever fired/owned

i just bought a p239 in .357 sig about six months ago. the last time i fired a weapon was about two years before this. my grouping at 25yrds was 95% within three inches. not bad for a 3.5 in. barrel. i will never get rid of this outstanding pistol. best gun i have ever owned or fired

My older European P220 .45ACP would outshoot my dad's Gold Cup. There is NOTHING 'wrong' with SIGs' accuracy. Have you considered the possibility that YOUR eyes may not 'like' the SIG's sights?

I hit pop cans 70% of the time at 50 yards with my 226 I've had for 15 years. Never jammed.

I had an old Sig 220 as well back in 93, very accurate gun as far as I remember. I am wondering if these SIG problems are recent developments? I had been thinking of getting a new 220 but then began to read about various problems with the gun. Is SIG quality control not as good as it used to be? As far as shooting at 21 feet you should I think with a modest amount of talent and reasonably careful shooting be able to shoot 5 rounds into a a 3 inch circle with a defensive handgun. If you cannot hit the rough center of target at 21 feet with your pistol, its either a training issue or pistol problem!

How close does a person need to be to feel in danger. I have 239 in 357sig. 25 yards, 6" group rapid fire seems fine to me. I have other pistols for the target range.

I just purchased a new Sig 239 40cal for personal carry on Friday and went to the range today and fired fifty rounds at two 8" shoot NC targets at 15 yards. All fifty rounds went into those targets. It confirmed that I made a good purchase decision. I actually went to buy a Kimber compact 45ACP. What turned me to the Sig was the easy breakdown for cleaning purposes. The Kimber had to use a special tool to assist in the breakdown process which I felt was a little dramatic. Not the same as the Colt 1911 which can be easily field stripped and assembled quickly.

I own several Sigs, all perform very well, as one poster said, the 220 will perform as well as most Gold Cups, with less feed and ejection problems.

Sig problems are usually person problems, and not equipment related.

Agreed. User error is usually overlooked, noone likes to blame themselves.
