I've been looking back and forth at this one sense it came out. Just seems extremely versatile.

I have not heard any reports on it yet, and was looking for some feed back in this model, and/or of course the stainless model it's offered in.

I believe there is a misprint in the artical here... ah there is no such 44-40 rifle cartridge, but what this was for was the .410 shotgun cartridge and teh .45 Colt cartridge.

The nice thing about the .410 cartridge is the buckshot loads it can shoot.... but with that extra long cylinder I don't think it will be in my gun cabnet anytime soon.

You beat me to it. But a question, the accuracy must really leave something to be desired dropping a .427 bullet out a 454 bore or am I missing something .027 clearance is a lot of room.

True, and I am wondering about the twist as well. It says 1, so I am thinking a rifled choke? Still unsure on this.

Or the other way around... shooting a .452/454 dia bullet thru a .427 dia barrel :shock:

myarmor, I didn't mean there was no such cartridge.. the 44-40 was designed as a pistol cartridge first and lever carbines were then designed I believe or vise versa - but it don't matter anyways, I wouldn't mind owning a set... a carry gun and a lever action to match.

Their site say "0 grooves" but if that is right it is a Category 3 gun with the requisite tax and registration problems.

OTOH, I have always wanted a smoothbore revolver and this might be the cheapest/easiest way to get started.

Just for information purposes, the .44 Winchester Center Fire, also known as the .44-40, was first chambered in the 1873 Winchester lever action. It wasn't chambered in a pistol until about 1875 or 1878 and then it was chambered first in the Colt Peacemaker. As to the afore mentioned Tarus, I'm interested, too, in how it will work.

Make sure you know what you wanna use it for before you go gung-ho over it's versatility, cause the .410 doesnt do a whole lot in general, especially with a barrel this short. I find that its ok for tweety-birds, small squirrels, and fish (we use them to kill big halibut when we bring them up in AK). But if it is just for fun, seems pretty interesting to me.

Bought one of these the other day. Barrel says 45LC/410 GA. 44-40 not mentioned on the pistol or the manual(It does mention 44-40 in the 05 catalog). Cylinder is 2 9/16 " long, so don't plan on shooting any 3" 410s. Barrel is rifled. Initial tests with this pistol shows very light patterns at 10 yards with Remington #6s although Handloaded #4s seem to do better. Seems to shoot 45LC fairly well. HiViz front sight, square fixed rear. Will write more when the weather gets better and I can get out and shoot more.

So it is in fact rifled? Thats good news.
I just think this would be an over all fun pistol. Versitility itself is fun. I mean come on...look at the Handis :grin: :agree:

I found 2 - 1 blued and 1 stainless in the local shop. They seem priced pretty fairly, but I don't want to sink money into a gun that doesn't shoot.

The only news is that I bought a box of Magtech brass 410 cases with the idea of reloading some different shot sizes, but guess what, they wouldn't chamber! Will continue reports when I reload some 2 1/2" shells in some coarse shot( hard to find in 2 1/2") and buy some more 45LC.

Bought a blue 3" (advertised as 2 1/2"; I measure 3" from the face of the cylinder) model today. The store also had a 6" (I think) stainless model which I didn't look at. I think patterns are always better out of short barrels when they're rifled. At home, I did a quick patterning job using #8 shot into a cardboard box at 5, 10, and 15 feet. Patterns were uniform and dense (I didn't do a pellet count). I plan on using this as an anti-snake device around the old homestead here in Alabama (where large irritable venemous serpents abound). Would probably make a fine house gun as well. I was able to find a nylon holster amongst my collection that will carry it okay. Has anyone found a holster made specifically for it?

I would like to revive this thread if I can. Thinking of one of these as a "pack" gun. Head into bear (black) on occassion and where I hike they have had some issues with dog packs.

Looking for something easy to throw on the hip or conceal easily in a pack to use as a deterrent with either of these. I understand that a 45LC is not a 44 Mag or S&W 500 but with proper loads I figured it should work as a last ditch deterrent. Again if I had my druthers an 870 pump with 12ga slugs & buck shot would be my first choice but that is not an option where I go.

Finally got one 6" blued shoots 45s about 8"low at 30 yards. Any ideas on raising the POI. By the way I got it for shooting clay piegons in the back yard. Ain't very good but am getting better 1 out of 25 when I started and am up to 6/7 out of 25 now. Going to start reloading 410s soon these thigs are not cheap. Am quite happy with it for nor now we'll see what some more rounds and time say.
