Looking to hear about some H&R Rifles?!?!?
« on: April 20, 2006, 10:05:50 AM »
I have been looking into the Handi Rifle and the Ultra Hunter.  I was wondering if someone can shed some light on their opinions on those 2 rifles.  I know they are very similar but I would greatly appreciate some advice.   I am going to be hunting with it as well as some Target shooting.  I currently use a .22LR for plinking, 30-30 Winchester Model 94 Ranger and now i am looking to buy a new rifle.  I was wondering if you can change the barrels on the Ultra Hunter?  Please let me know.  By the way as with other posts I've encountered people have wondered my size to better determine a caliber.  I have some in mind I just am wanted to know how accurate these are and some reviews on them.  I am attracted to them becasue of the many optional barrels you can buy for them.  I am 5'9" 170 lbs and am 21 years old. Thanks for many advice that you guys or gals give!
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

Handi and Ultra=Same thing. Pretty much, anyway. The Ultras have a little better polish and are a bit prettier in my opinion. Plus you get a nice Lamintated stock.
Both the Handi and Ultras use the harder receiver, and SB-2 receiver. These handle the higher pressures of centerfire calibers. You can easily send an SB-2 back to the factory to get fitted for any number of barrels...Centerfire, Shotgun(with the exception of the 10ga), and Muzzleloader barrels.
Hunting and Target work...then I reccomend the 25-06, 280, or 308 Bull Bull barrel. Or a 24" Bull Barrel 243, is nice too   Thats just my reccomendations. Just depends on your needs. But these seem to be among the most accurate of the offerings.
These rifles can be as accurate as any, but may require a little tuning. So have that in mind. Some require a little more than others. Some shoot great out of the box.
Hope this helps a little.

:D I don't think you could go wrong with either. I have a new NEF Survivor in Bull barrel 308 , 223 Fluted and had an Ultra in 25-06 ( sold the rifle and need my backside kicked) all three very nice rifles. Thee 223 and 25 were and are tack drivers under an in 3 shot group all day. I just picked up the 308 but its trigger is the best of the three and breaks clean at 3#. Take your pick they are all very accurate and reliable rifles. I agree with the advice you have recieved. Before i am done new 25-06, 280, Bull 243, 35 Whelen and finally because i want my fillings loosened a 45-70 Buff rifle. I have a couple of bolt guns, but they are my back ups now. Welcome, you'll enjoy the advice and conversation here.  Jess
