If it was me, I'd keep the Savage and make the few mods noted to get it to my liking and get the Remington if the budget can withstand the strain. I have several Savages and a Remington and the only reason I don't have more is lack of $$$. One of the reasons I got my Savage is that I use it as a backup and to complement my other rifles so I can tailor the gun to the job at hand (e.g. same reason I have more than one tool in the toolbox). If you like the Savage action, look at the synthetic stocks produced by Savage as well, to me they feel slimmer in the areas mentioned and at 6.5 lbs are positively delightful to carry in the woods.
In general, I think that guns are not a good financial investment in that it is more likely that you lose money during resale than make money. This is a secondary reason why I don't sale any of my firearms, the main reason is that I enjoy being able to shoot different calibers and like having variety in my gun safe.
Upgrading or getting good optics is a no-lose proposition on any firearm and only helps to improve the experience at the range or in the field.
Both of the guns you mention I have had excellent results with and the only thing they asked for in return was reasonable maintenance and care. Pick either or both, whichever feels comfortable and works best for you.
Safe shooting.
