Two moose
« on: March 05, 2006, 07:38:20 AM »
This one comes from my fathers buddy..  but an interesting insight.  He was out hunting moose, and across a field saw a nice bull, took the shot, the moose dropped.  He was going to start towards it, when it got back up, another shot, drop.  He goes and looks, two bulls, almost the exact same size, rack size, hanging out in the same spot.  When one dropped the other one got up out of the grass... who knew?  Bad experience, hard to explain to F&G!

I guess this is more common than one would think. A co worker here in the great, over taxed state of maine , was Moose hunting and took a lenghty shot. 100 yards or so.. No movement , went in to see and a moose got up.. another shot. went down. "damn scope he said"went in for a third time. Moose got up. Another shot. Three dead moose. OOPS.. with a capitol Ă–".. He called the warden service. They eventualy came out. They are Busy you know!.. Gave him a rash of Ă¿ou know"couldn't you tell the diffrence in the racks etc. They all measured with a inch or so."I sur could not.  One of the moose was actulay laying partialy on the other. And the story does not end here.. He kept his gun,, paid a fine, got to keep one moose.   A year later he turns on the local news and the wonderful wardens are in class with a bunch of middle school kids talking about poaching and game laws. The warden says proudly on camera. We caught this poacher who had shot three moose ect.. Well he went nuts,( The so called poacher) They did not catch any one. With out him being a straight as an arrow boy scout and calling in his own violation, they would never have known. CSI Miami might have figured it out but not these Wardens. Swear to GOD, this is true. A honest mistake buy an inexsperianced moose hunter and they acted as if they had solved the crime of the centuru. There are few exsperianced moose hunters in Maine as it is a Lottery Hunt and if you get drawn a few times in you life time you are lucky.
