Dumb question, probably...
« on: February 05, 2006, 11:07:28 AM »
Does anyone know if using a flashlight or a headlamp to get to your deer stand in the dark is considered jacking deer in our state? I've read the regs and I guess I don't know for certain.

Any thoughts out there?

I had the same question as you do a couple of years ago so I called up one of our local ECO's. He told me that it can only be a small penlight type flashlight and it can not be powered by anything larger than either 1 AAA battery or 1 AA battery (sorry but I can't seem to remember which one it was). Hope this helps you out. Personally I carry a small LED flash light with different colored lenses and powered by a couple of button cell batteries.

I agree with Meatball...If you stick with a penlight flashlight like a mini Mag-Lite I think you are ok...Don't go into the woods with a 4 D battery full size Mag-Lite...That might get you in trouble.  I use a Mini Mag-Lite with my thumb over the lens to get to my stand if I am unfamiliar with the location.  Usually I can make it in the dark and I just use the light to avoid snapping twigs...

Regs, and ECO say, "maximum 2 AA cell light".  I have had this confirmed each year when we have an ECO address our Hunter Ed Classes.  Joe
