This is the sloooweeest site I get on. :(

Do others here have trouble getting timed out and
such fooling with p/m's.

Maybe Mr. Graybeard needs an upgrade, or is it me?

Merry Christmas

Whether or not you (or your computer) need an upgrade is a totally different issue

Of recent, there have been some server issues - speed may or may not be one of those issues.

I'm connecting at the blinding speed of 24k at home and on a T1 at work.  At home I may not recognize that there is slowness on GB's end.

You might want to give Bill a PM or e-mail.  He doesn't appear to be  secretive regarding what's going on.

Some of y'all have PM'd/emailed me regarding the issues with the site.

I too have run into the slow loading AND the Page Not Available notice - to which I just hit refresh and 50% of the time it'll come up.

Tune in Monday to see if the promised resolutions have been made.

Also I'm seeing double posts.

Response time has been erratic this week, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes timing out.  I do T1 at work and DSL at home; the problem is not at the receiving end.  Has been better today so far.

Naahhhh, still erratic.

Agree with the erratic response, and that the problem may not have been on YOUR (and other folks') receiving end(s).   :-D

Mine certainly isn't perfect.   :(

Subject: The slows on GBO

I Sent Graybeard this message this morning:

*********************************
Bill,
For the past two days getting on the board has been very difficult.  Tim "Cat Whisperer" and i have been talking back an forth via email becasue we can't get on the board.  We are both on dial up. Don't know if the problem is isolated to dial up  users or if it applies to high speed users also.

****************************************

He Sent me this reply;

******************************************
The problem is with the site. WeÂ’re working on it but just canÂ’t seem to find the problem. Yesterday it was down most of the day with server issues. The current problem is not the server and is MattÂ’s job to fix. HeÂ’s working on it.

***************************************

So I sent him this messag in return:

*****************************************

Bill,

Okay, good to know what the problem is.  We can't loose sight of the fact that even a computer is a basic mechanical device and they aren't perfect.

It's easier to get  a person to work than a computer.  A person gets the slows and you can put a boot to his butt to speed him up.....won't work with a computer.

We're having technical problems at this time. We're aware of them and will fix them as soon as Matt can make the time. He is confident he knows what needs to be done but it requires shutting down the site for a few hours. We're dumping the current software and adding back the latest version with selected mods. Hope to have it done NLT Monday Dec. 26.

Until then it's crawling. Part of that is folks reposting a half dozen or in some cases even more times. Most of the time the first one really does take. It's just the page telling you it posted that doesn't.

I'm on right now at nearly 2:30 AM with about 30 something more folks and it's working super. When we get the software replacement taken care of it should be fast once again. We've handled a lot more folks on at one time in the past than are on these days with no problems. There is just some thing has has happened in the software since that last hacker hit us.
