make the number of posts on a page smaller? Some of the threads, "Beercan Mortars" as an example, take forever to load on dialup. More than 20 posts, particularly one with lots of pictures can take 5 to 10 minutes to fully load.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.

Good point.  I'll pose the quesetion to Graybeard.

I usually connect at less than 33.6k, I understand the problem.

Often I'll stop the loading of pix, and then left click on it and load just the last several pix.

Couldn't find a way but you should post the question on the Questions About Forums forum near the bottom of the initial forum list.

Actually right now there is two issues.

GBO has doing some work with the servers over the past two days and that has made the pages very slow to load and with dial up the load sometimes time out.  But that now that appears to be pretty much over.

The real problem with slow loading of pages is pictures. The more pictures posted in a thread the slower the page will load.    "Beercan Mortars"  is a very good example.

So the question is...do we ban or restrict the number of pictures posted per thread, or just live with it.

Part of the problem with pictures is that not everyone knows how to use their PhotoEditing software to format pictures for the Internet.

For this  forum 540 pixels wide at 72 pixels per inch or 533 pixels wide at 28 pixels per centimeter is best. Plain talk 7.5 inches/19 centimeters wide. Resolution of 72 pixels per inch or 28 pixels per centimeter.

People post pictures right as they come from their camera,  These pictures have high resolution and take up a lot of room. (I think the correct term is bandwidth.) Pictures are not reformatted to the lower 72dpi  resolution nor is all the white space cropped out.  See my post at the top of the forum on BPM&C Photo album links and Picture posting instructions for more details on taking pictures for posting on the board.  if everyone would follow those instructions in that post on how to take pictures and format them for use on the board it would help with the problem.  It won't eliminate the problem but it will help.

FWIW I also am on dial up and know of what you speak.

Some of the forums I haunt let the member decide how many posts the member wants per page. The others are decided by the administrators, apparently this one is that way.

GBO was virtually offline yesterday and even on T1 and DSL connections, has been timing out frequently today.

You can suppress display of the images in your browser setup.  The images are not shown but you can right click the image placeholder if you want to see the image.
