1/3 scale 6 Pounder.

I recieved these just about 1 month ago.,and have been wittling away. We decided on a Low Rider type of toy to sit inside by my easy chair. The wife has this thing about not keeping cannons in the house where they belong. Anyway we reached an agreement on this piece. It had to be small .,low.,and clean....., so a toy.

And we did do a live fire test finally today., I am surprised at the thunder of a 1" bore., not to bad and you can definitely feel it. Here is the video (15 megs d-load for the .56k impaired)

Busted again., along with the no GOEX ( I need to get some ) can photos.,I didnt use a fuse., we used to but not anymore.,now I sprinkle 3f BP from a 10 grain tube on a powder flask down the vent., and hot match-it (with a firework punk for today). This was all in town in the back yard. A quickie to get the video., When we are able to fire more we will use a linstock and a slow match. After putting a 1/8 drill bit thru the barrel for a vent.,I then use a 1/2" drill bit and drill just the tip of the bit into the barrel.,makes it easy to get yer powder down the vent.

Johnny the one firing needs to be told AGAIN to stand to the side of the cannon and reach over with the linstock., not hover over it.

YES !!! ., I heard alot of stories.,but I have to work with people for myself and judge from there. Tim treated me right., Grey-Star Inc.  He casted them and shipped them in speedy time. We looked everything over really well.,inside and out. I am so sold on this little gun and its performance I will be buying 4 more in April. The new 4-pak will really serve my purpose well. I give them 5 STARS.

Thank you ! no production exp.,I just know what I like so I doddle my way thru the software till I get it. Yes twins for now., 1 for a friend and one is mine. I suppose I would sell it.,then I would build another.,I really enjoy doing it actually..., And anyone in this forum will always tell you 2 is definitely better than 1. I am at 9 currently and in April will be at 13.

I used a Honey oak stain and Poly Urethane. For the Barrel I used POR-15 its a heavy equipment Anti Rust preventive impervious to chemicals and salt water..,so they claim.

Do those Greystar barrels have seamless liners?

When you finish the trucks what color are they going to be? Black, red yellow?

No DOM liner. There is an additional 100.00 charge for that option., I didnt think it would be worth it for a 185.00 barrel.  Although you cant see a seam looking down the barrel with a flashlight

No-Paint. I built this to look like a toy it sits next to my easy chair.

The 4 grey stars that are going on the boat will be red.
The 2 Herns I have are getting a green paint.

I read that post a couple of weeks ago., then just went thru it again. Personally I have a few old cannons and with my 15 or 20 shots a year I havent found them to be a problem .

I am not trying to dispute this issue. What I am saying is perhaps its not necessary in all cannon applications.

For example a group of re-enactors with a large bore seeing regular usage would be better off with more dollars in thier barrel than say the casual summer time shooter.

Sure a seam will rust .,so will any mild steel., anywhere on it., it will pitt and rust. I swab my bores with oil.,and let age take its course.

I own Richs Rooter Service., 23 years  Lots of sluge acids.,sulphuric and others ., film developer., on and on., I deal with seamed pipes daily. Some actually might call me a pipe expert. I see what  differant products do to differant types of pipe., and I see it new and old.

I am very happy with my new Grey-Star Pipes and believe they will provide years of sitin around and a few shots a year.

Most likely you will never have a problem with your cannons.  Especially if you follow the guidelines laid out in that post about  maintenance  and inspection.

Frankly, I can't think of any cannon application where seamless tube wouldn't be preferred. Safety is not worth the savings cost.

It doesn't matter how many shots you fire, if occlusions or micro porosity exist corrosion can start from the first shot.  Corrosion in a infrequently fired cannon will have more time to grow between shots than a regularly fired gun.  I'd be more worried about failure in an infrequently fired gun than a frequently fired gun.

At the pressures found in cannons it just isn't worth taking the chance.  That's why organization like The North South Skirmish Association and the American Artillery Association mandate seamless tubing for liners. The fellows in those organization know cannons!

I can not understand how a manufacturer of cannons can take the liability risk selling a cannon with a seamed liner. With all that has been written about cannon liners they are sticking their neck way out using seamed liners.

I cant change anything I already have with a new liner.,most are poured so hot they are married to the barrel. Least wise not without great expense. But I am thinking now. after more reading of your post that I probably better get the DOM liners in the next 4 especially since they are going on the boat. I didnt have a choice with nor did I even know what a Dom was.
I do however have the option with Grey Star and will get the 4-pak that way.  Advice taken  Thanks Double D.
