I'm thinking about buying a slightly used 7mm-08, 20 inch barrelled Howa 1500 Lightning.

What am I likely to experience shooting this thin, lite weight barrelled rifle. Thanks Tacomaj

I've had one 20 years... (Vanguard, fine walnut 20" .270).
It's a terrific Mountain deer rifle. Extremely accurate, but make your first 2 or 3 shots count. At this point because of the thin barrel, it starts walking.
I love it !!! Mine was $249 new with Weatherby target, and gorgeous wood. What are they going for now?

I never priced a new one but the used model is 300.00 out the door. Has a black coated stock. Doesn't feel like plastic.

tscott,did the Vanguard feel like it had a terribly short stock to you? the only one I picked up fely SHORT,so i asked and the guy at the gun shop said it wasn't a youth.

So I bought a Tikka :-D :-D :-D

I bought my kids a youth model, and put a limbsaver on it. Shoots great. Shorter barrel works great in a blind. The stock is about 1/2" shorter than the regular Howa mountain rifle with the Limbsaver on it.

The stock ain't too short for me (I'm 6'5"). I love the feel of this gun. It is second to my .300 Savage 99f. If it wern't for nostalgia, the Vanguard would be my go to gun.... I certainly would buy a good used one for $300.
I have a small 1.5x5 Leupold VXIII on it LIGHTNING is the operative word here.... With the whole world in front of me!
