American Pioneer Powder
« on: November 20, 2005, 11:52:19 AM »
i have been reading some of the comments posted here on graybeards about this powder. yesterday i went to my favorite sporting goods store hoping to buy a pound of APP fffg. well, all they had was ffg, so i bought it anyway. (reluctantly).....BIG MISTAKE!!!!  my encore is a bit finicky to start with, but, this stuff did NOT agree with any bullet combination i tried. after about 2 hours, and a sore shoulder, i had to borrow some 777 from my friend so i could save my sanity and get to the stand. i know several of you guys have good luck using the APP fffg. i plan to try some when i can find it. oh well, i guess $20 is a cheap lesson....

Isn't APP the same as the older Goex Clear Shot?  I'd read (ar at least think I did) somewhere that it was simply renamed to American Pioneer Powder.

I might be wrong, but I think it used to be Clean Shot and renamed after Hogdon sued them for the pellet infringement thingy.

I used the AP ffg in my Omega with good results.......real easy to clean afterwards. If I needed to reload, I used the 777 pellets (3). I used the 348 Powerbelts this year. 2 does and 1 buck, 20, 100 and 135 yards.

One of my hunting mags has an article about it, so I'll try finding it this evening.

Handgunhuntr is right, it is the old Clean Shot reincarnated as APP.

My Encore 50 cal liked Clean Shot ffg and likes APP ffg as well. I'd like to try fffg but no retailers around here carry it only ffg.

I've been using it for 3 years, in its granular form.  No problems and good accuracy. I picked up a bottle of their sticks yesterday, got good accuracy with 245 power belts.  Will try some more this weekend with 295 PB's.
