Never was a Browning Fan . . .
« on: October 31, 2005, 12:44:41 PM »
Whenever I saw a Browning, in the past, I can't say as I ever really liked the looks of em.  Seemed too shiny and kind of cheap looking.  But after several years of this opinion my buddy went and got a Stainless Stalker in 280 and it was a real shooter.  I had one of my Sako rifles (and I really like Sakos) that was the 1st one I ever had that I could not get to shoot.  It was an 1995 model and even though it was a beauty to look at, it just would not put 3 within 1" consistently.  1.5 - 2" it would do, but not much better.  So I sold it .I thought I would try one of those too shiny and kind of cheap looking Brownings.

I gotta say, this thing is a keeper.  I got a S.S in 7m-08 and except for putting a lighter spring in the trigger it was/is a great rifle.  It will consistently group an inch or less, and if I am "in the zone" will do under 1/4" with 3 at 100 yds.

I cannot say the the action is that smooth and I have worked it hundreds of times as I sat on the couch.  But I guess if that is its greatest fault then I can certainly live with it.

Well I'm glad to see your starting to like brownings. I'm not quite sure what you mean by cheap looking I think browning makes one of the best looking rifles on the market. I'd say give them a few more trys you'll find out how nice they are.

yeah i can't say i have ever had a complaint about browning looks, or quality either for that matter.

i have a browning gold that has been wonderful. i plan on owning more brownings in the future, as every time i go to the gun shop looking for a particular category of gun i check to see what browning offers in that area.

I have had a couple browning shotguns and a Eurobolt in 243 w/boss.  The Eurobolt was basically just cosmetically different than the standard abolt,  with a 22" barrel and matte finish.  It is one of the most accurate rifles that I have ever had.  I traded out the ported boss for the fluted version and after a little tuning got it to shoot the federal premium 100gr SBT load into unbelievably small groups.  I particularly like the way the magazine is setup, detachable but with much looks that most detachable magazines.  I killed more deer with it than any other rifle.

YUP---never owned a Browning anything till they fixed the cosmetics.

I can't stand 1950's pimp styling on my guns---no Browning--no Rem BDL ever----the classic Ruger look was a thing of beauty in my eyes.

Then Browning saw fit to bring out the Classic BL-22---bought it on the spot-----now I own a Citori Classic-----BPS Micro----and an Acera rifle---all have the "fixed" styling that I like.

Owned a composite Stalker A-bolt----but the gold trigger always bugged me---they make a wonderful matte finished rifle---then put the pimp gold trigger on it   Sometimes bad habits die hard ---I guess

I just do not understand... HOW DOES CHEAP PLASTIC STOCK BECOME THE FAVORITE...OVER WOOD???  THE ONLY COMPOSITE STOCK I WOULD EVER BUY IS IS REMS NEW THUMB HOLE STOCK 870.. AS FOR THE REST THEY ARE CHEAP AND LOOK UGLY!  I AM SO MAD AT BROWNING FOR MAKING ALL THE 10GA IN PLASTIC.. I GUESS IF THATS WHAT YOU PREFER THAT IS GREAT BUT DO NOT STOP MAKING GUNS THAT ME AS WELL AS OTHERS THAT LIKE THE COSMETICS AND LOOKS. WHAT CRACKS ME UP EVEN MORE IS THEY CHARGE THE SAME FOR ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE WOODS AS THEY DO FOR PLASTIC.  HELP ME UNDERSTAND?

well the 10 gauge is just about ONLY used in the duck blinds so they probably put the plastic on it because the wood can be damaged in that setting.

i don't know about you but i don't take my browning gold out in the crappiest weather.
